Molecular short path distillation is a distillation method operated under high vacuum. At this time, the mean free path of vapor molecules is greater than the distance between the evaporation surface and the condensation surface, so that the difference in evaporation rate of each component in the feed liquid can be used to optimize the liquid mixture to separate. At certain temperature, the lower pressure, the greater mean free path of gas molecules will be. When pressure in the evaporation space is very low ( 10-2 ~10-4 mmHg), and the condensation surface is close to the evaporation surface, and the vertical distance between them is smaller than the mean free path of the gas molecules, the vapor molecules vaporized from the evaporation surface may not be separated from the evaporation surface. Other molecules collide and condense directly to the condensing surface.

Molecular Distillation

Molecular distillation is a special liquid-liquid separation technology. It differs from traditional distillation, which relies on boiling point differences, by using the difference in the mean free path of molecular motion of different substances to achieve separation.

When the liquid mixture flows along the heating plate and is heated, the light and heavy molecules escape from the liquid surface and enter the gas phase. Since the free paths of the light and heavy molecules differ, molecules of different substances travel different distances after escaping the liquid surface. If a condensing plate is installed correctly, the light molecules reach the condensing plate, condense, and are discharged, while the heavy molecules do not reach the condensing plate and are discharged with the mixed liquid. This achieves the purpose of material separation.
